Hui Lau Shan in the heart of Houston’s Chinatown area is a dessert shop that specializes in mango-centric treats and other Asian-inspired sweets. Located at 9889 Bellaire Blvd, this spot is well-known among locals who crave a cool, fruity break from the usual American dessert options.

The atmosphere is bright and welcoming, with clean, modern décor that encourages lingering—something that’s not always easy to find in fast-service dessert places. It tends to get quite busy especially on weekends and holidays, a sign that families and groups often make a stop here after nearby activities, like playing at the claw machine arcades just down the block.

Hui Lau Shan’s signature mango desserts stand out for their balance—offering sweetness without overwhelming the palate, a contrast to overly sugary treats common in the U.S. The menu is centered around fresh mango in various forms: from silky mango pudding and sago pomelo combos to chewy mochi balls and mango pancakes. These options tend to attract those with a taste for authentic Asian desserts, particularly fans of tropical fruit flavors and textural contrast, like the soft mango paired with bouncy chewy elements.

Visitors often come for the mango sago pomelo, a refreshingly fruity dessert that’s both cooling and satisfying. There’s also durable appeal in less sweet, more nuanced options like coconut mango jelly or taro sago chewy ball, which offer a creamier, slightly earthy counterpoint. The drinks, including bubble tea and mango pomelo drinks, can be on the pricier side but are generally appreciated for quality and flavor.

The service style is casual with friendly staff who handle a steady flow of customers with efficiency, even during crowded times. It works well as a sweet stop after shopping or as a treat to share among family and friends. The seating is suited for small groups who don’t mind a lively, bustling environment rather than quiet or intimate dining.

Overall, Hui Lau Shan is best experienced as a local sweet shop where you can explore a variety of mango desserts beyond the familiar ice cream or sorbet. It suits anyone curious about Asian dessert culture, families looking for a cool respite during a day out, and those who appreciate a little chewiness in their sweets. Visiting mid-week or earlier in the afternoon might offer a somewhat calmer experience compared to the weekend rush.

Very elegant decoration in the store, making people would love to stay for longer. Desserts are yummy, not too sweet like American desserts. Even the restrooms look very clean, nice, and decent.

Note that I’m not a fan of this kind of desserts. I much prefer custard or cheesecake. But tasting these flavors were delicious. Also remember that mango is not a cheap fruit and so these desserts are not inexpensive. This isn’t the one dollar ice cream cone from McDonald’s most of the price point seemed about 5 to 7 dollars in cost my wife and children enjoy the different flavors the different textures and would highly recommend this location and looking forward to going back if you don’t like the flavor of mango this might be a difficult place to find satisfaction I love mango and so does the family so ice creams Jellies and all things mango and dessert were well received parking is difficult at this location because of the very busy retail shops and Great Wall of China grocery store although there is a parking structure just know that getting parking right in front of the store might be difficult. The cleanliness inside the store is OK. I always feel like they have a table or two that has a spill on it that isn’t yet being Attended to however, I always feel they’re short staffed as well just because there’s typically a pretty consistent flow of patrons.

Shuya was incredibly friendly at the counter when we ordered our treats! Very packed environment but the drinks made it worth it for sure! Cannot wait to go back!

I ordered mango pomelo drink and mango with chewy mochi balls. Taste really good and not overly sweet. The chewy balls are a little bit hard. I like the pomelo mango better. Drinks are a little pricey, but the quality makes up for it

Always a line out the door on holidays and weekends! After crushing it at one of the claw machine arcades nearby, my family and I ventured to Hui Lau Shan. I ordered the mango sago pomelo, and it was so tasty. In the past, I've gotten the mochi, but I'm not a huge fan of shaved coconut. The mango pomelo sago was definitely worth the wait (and a bit of inflammation).

This layered mango and yogurt drink is absolutely refreshing. The sweet, ripe mango pairs perfectly with the creamy yogurt, creating a balanced flavor that’s not too sweet and not too tangy. Each sip gives you a mix of smooth texture and fresh fruit taste, and the layers make it just as beautiful as it is delicious. Light, satisfying, and perfect for a warm day or as a quick treat—I’d definitely order this again.

Tried their desserts yesterday and they were really good! The osmanthus taro bowl was my favorite — the taro was smooth and not too sweet, just perfect. The durian one was also tasty, but a bit sweet for me since I prefer lighter flavors. Overall very enjoyable!

This place is packed in Sunday afternoon. The sample on the window display looks so yummy. You walk in the store, you will want to buy the beautiful drinks and snacks. I ordered Mango Pancake and Passion Fruit and Mango drink. They are light and delicious.
